Qualities
of affection, compassion, absolution, retention, beauty,
strength, gentleness, and concern are present more or
less in every living being. All these divine virtues are
seen combined only in mothers and that is why mother is
termed as goddess in ancient and even in modern Indian
concepts. Of all these qualities, strength has more
importance. Mother alone possess the strength to
conceive, deliver and nurture its offspring throughout;
she sacrifices every pleasure for the sake, and thus
reads the oriental concept "Mathru Devo Bhava"
means 'Mother thou art God'. The existence of worshippers of motherhood in India dates far back to four millenniums, and this cult is known as "SHAKTI CULT ". Shakti means ultimate power or strength. There are numerous Shakti worshippers in India especially in Kerala. These worshippers built temples at their places of birth. These temples are treasured with the time-tested arts, murals, stone and wooden sculptures, antiques etc. to be preserved for the generations to come. |
